QCF HSC qualifications

QCF Level 1 Qualifications in Health and Social Care

There are five qualifications available:

  • Level 1 Award in Preparing to work in Adult Social Care (4333-10)
  • Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's Settings (4333-11)
  • Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's Settings (4333-13)
  • Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health and Social Care (Adults, Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare-Wales and Northern Ireland (4333-12)
  • Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Health and Social Care (Adults, Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare-Wales and Northern Ireland (4333-14).

Each provides an introduction to working in the relevant area of health and social care and units include:

  • Awareness of communication
  • Awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Introduction to the role of the social care worker
  • Awareness of Health and safety
  • Awareness of Safeguarding
  • Awareness of Duty of care
  • Introduction to person centered approaches. 

 

QCF Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults)

There are 9 core units:

  • Introduction to communication in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
  • Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
  • Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • The role of the health and social care worker
  • Implement person centered approaches in health and social care
  • Contribute to health and safety in health and social care
  • Handle information in health and social care settings
  • Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children's and young people's settings.

Examples of optional units that suit your job role:

  • Causes and spread of infection
  • Understand the impact of acquired brain injury on individuals
  • Introductory awareness of models of disability
  • Approaches to enable rights and choices for individuals with dementia whilst minimizing risks
  • Support individuals to eat and drink
  • Contribute to the care of a deceased person.
  • Promote and implement health and safety in health and social care
  • Promote good practice in handling information in health and social care settings.

 

 QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults)

There are 3 pathways: Generic, Supporting individuals with Learning difficulties & Promoting Mental health & well being in older people.

 

The Supporting individuals with Learning difficulties & Promoting Mental health & well being in older people are both available as awards/certificates separately for CPD

The 9 core units:

  • Promote communication in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
  • Engage in personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
  • Promote equality and inclusion in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
  • Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • The role of the health and social care worker
  • Promote person centered approaches in health and social care

Examples of the optional units to suit your job role:

  • Purpose and principles of independent advocacy
  • Understand the role of communication and interactions with individuals who have dementia
  • Understand theories of relationships and social networks
  • Principles of supporting an individual to maintain personal hygiene
  • Understand how to support individuals with autistic spectrum conditions
  • Responding to the advocacy needs of different groups of people
  • Test for substance use
  • Administer medication to individuals and monitor the effects

Enable rights and choices of individuals with dementia whilst minimizing risks

 

QCF Certificate and Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce

Level 2 Certificate for Children and Young People's Workforce (England)

The level 2 qualification is aimed at anyone working in a supporting role. This could be as a nursery assistant, child care worker, crèche worker or special educational needs assistant. 

The Certificate is a generic qualification that will be relevant across the Children and Young People's Workforce.  It is mapped to the CWDC Induction Standards and the Children's Care Learning and Development National Occupational Standards.

35 credits are required  to achieve the qualification. 31 credits will come from the mandatory group of units and 4 credits from the optional group B units.

 

Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's workforce

65 credits are required to achieve the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce Diploma.

27 credits from:

  • All 4 units of the Skills for Care and Development shared core  
  • All 7 Children and young People mandatory core units.

one mandatory occupational pathway from:

  • Early Learning and Childcare (22 credits) 
  • Social Care (13 credits)
  • Learning, Development and Support Services (13 credits).

The remaining credits must be achieved from a choice of optional units.

Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services

This Diploma has 6 pathways to suit job roles:

  • Children and Young People's Residential Management
  • Children and Young People's Management
  • Children and Young People's Advanced Practice
  • Adults' Residential Management
  • Adults' Management
  • Adults' Advanced Practice

All the pathways share 5 core units:

  • Use and develop systems that promote communication
  • Promote professional development
  • Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Develop health and safety and risk management policies procedures and practices in health and social care or children and young people's settings
  • Working in partnership in health and social care, and children and young people's settings.

Children and Young People's Residential Management pathway (England)

There are 7 additional core units:

Level 3 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector

There are 3 core units (18 credits total):

  • Planning and enabling learning
  • Principles and practice of assessment
  • Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector.

The optional units include:

  • Equality and diversity (6 credits)
  • Preparing for the coaching role (3 credits)
  • Preparing for the mentoring role (3 credits).

 

 Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector

There are 3 core units (18 credits total):

 Level 2 Certificate in Housing

There are 3 mandatory units:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders in a housing context
  • Maintain professional behavior and working relationships in a housing context
  • Maintain the health, safety and security of self and others.

Examples of units include:

  • Process documentation relating to housing activities
  • Undertake promotional activity within the housing sector
  • Advertise and market properties
  • Use organizational ICT systems in a housing context
  • Assess housing need
  • Match the needs of individuals with available accommodation
  • Support individuals through the process of signing occupancy agreements
  • Check and record the condition of property.

 

Level 3 Diploma or Certificate in Housing

For the Certificate in Housing you need 27 credits.

There are 3 core units, which add up to 13 credits:

  • Promote safe, ethical and sustainable practice in housing
  • Plan own professional development within housing
  • Develop positive relationships with customers and colleagues in providing a housing service.

Examples of the optional units include:

  • Respond to customer requests for repairs
  • Organize the maintenance and repair of property
  • Allocate accommodation to meet customers' needs
  • Provide housing advice and guidance to customers
  • Provide a housing rent service
  • Manage temporary accommodation
  • Direct work with customers who use a housing service
  • Enable housing customers to establish and maintain contacts and interests in isolating situations.

 

Diploma in Housing

There are 3 core units, which add up to 13 credits:

  • Promote safe, ethical and sustainable practice in housing
  • Plan own professional development within housing
  • Develop positive relationships with customers and colleagues in providing a housing service.

Examples of the optional units include:

  • Inspect the condition of property
  • Set up and manage tenancy, license and leaseholder agreements
  • Respond to possible breaches of agreements in the housing sector
  • Sell property to customers within a housing organization setting
  • Manage empty properties
  • Work with customers and groups to develop the community
  • Help customers to move and settle into new living environments
  • Provide support to customers to reduce the risk of homelessness.

 

Level 3 and 4 Certificate and Diploma in Advice and Guidance

QCF Level 3 Certificate in Advice and Guidance

This qualification comprises mandatory units:

  • Establish communication with clients for advice and guidance
  • Assist advice and guidance clients to decide on a course of action
  • Manage personal case load

Plus a selection of optional ones 

 

QCF Level 4 Diploma in Advice and Guidance

This qualification comprises mandatory and optional units including:

  • Support clients to make use of the advice and guidance service
  • Advocate on behalf of advice and guidance clients
  • Prepare to represent advice and guidance clients in formal proceedings
  • Liaise with other services
  • Stage and manage the mediation process
  • Provide support for other practitioners

 

ILM level 2 NVQ certificate in team leading

Le The ILM Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Team Leading has been designed for team leaders who have some personal autonomy and responsibility, and who collaborate with others to deliver work. The NVQ gives learners the opportunity to develop the core competences needed by team leaders in today's dynamic business world. Learners take three mandatory units focusing on managing personal development, working relationships with colleagues and communicating information and knowledge. They then choose from a diverse range of optional unite to complete the qualification, tailoring their learning to meet their individual and organizational goals

 

ILM level 5 NVQ Diploma in Management

The ILM Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Management has been specifically designed for middle managers with a wide span of control and accountability for performance, in particular those with responsibility for determining resource allocation and operational methods in their department or organization. Learners take four mandatory units covering developing and implementing operational plans, working productively, providing leadership and direction, and planning change. They then choose from a diverse range of optional units to complete the qualification, tailoring their learning to meet their individual and organizational needs.

 

Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Management

The Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Management has been designed for senior managers with a high degree of autonomy for deploying resources and achieving strategic goals. The qualification allows learners to develop their strategic management skills, providing leadership and coaching to other managers while also focusing on organizational performance and strategy. Learners take three mandatory units covering the development of strategic business plans, the strategic direction and leadership of an organization and leading change within an organization. They then choose from a diverse range of optional units to complete the qualification, tailoring their learning to meet their individual and organizational needs.
